Original Floral Paintings: Bold, Contemporary Flower Art

Flowers are the oldest subject in art — which is exactly why they’re so easy to paint badly. I take the opposite approach: my original floral paintings are loud, modern, and unapologetically colourful, closer to a contemporary abstract than a soft botanical study.

If you want floral art with energy — a flower painting that holds a wall instead of fading into it — my work is built for exactly that.

A modern take on floral art

I paint flowers the way I paint mountains and coastline: heightened colour, confident shapes, and a graphic, contemporary eye. Working in acrylic on canvas, I turn blooms into bold compositions that feel current in a modern interior. These are florals for people who don’t usually like florals — the same approach runs through my Canadian Rockies and West Coast landscapes and modern abstracts.

The florals in the collection

My flower paintings range from single statement blooms to dense, garden-like fields of colour — vivid petals, deep contrasts, and the same confident brushwork that runs through all of my work. Pieces like Breezy Flowers — a flurry of pastel petals against a clear sky — and Lilly Pond Flowers, bold waterside blooms in an abstract array of colour, show the range. Each is an interpretation rather than a botanical copy, composed for mood and impact. Browse the full floral collection to see what’s currently available.

Colour that carries a room

A strong floral is one of the easiest ways to bring warmth and life into a space — a kitchen, dining room, bedroom, or entry. Because my florals lead with colour, they double as a palette anchor: pull a wall colour, a cushion, or a rug straight from the canvas.

Originals and editions

Every floral begins as a one-of-a-kind original acrylic, priced by size; once sold, it’s gone. On select pieces, signed limited-edition canvas giclées are available for collectors who want the image at a more accessible price — browse what’s available now in my store.
